DESCRIPTION:The International Association for the History of Religions
  (formally established in September, 1950 on the occasion of the VIIth
  International History of Religions Congress) is a world-wide organiza
 tion which has as its object the promotion of the academic study of re
 ligions and religion through the international collaboration of all sc
 holars and scientists whose research has a bearing on the subject. As 
 an international scholarly organization, the IAHR has a close relation
 ship with UNESCO through the International Council for Philosophy and 
 Humanistic Studies (CIPSH). It represents the work of scholars of reli
 gion who are members of the 37 national member associations and 5 regi
 onal member associations that support the study of religion in college

 the pre-eminent international forum for the critical, analytical, and 
 cross-cultural study of religion; it is not a forum for apologetic, co
